BSG ThoughtsThere’s a piece over at Space Westerns (found on reddit) that breaks down the Last Supper photo released by the BSG folks during their long hiatus. I’m not sure I believe the conclusion, but I do agree that the water glasses probably mean something along those lines. But I have some other ideas based on the quote from the Hybrid that they listed:
That’s best digested line-by-line. At last, they’ve come for me. I feel their lives, their destinies spilling out before me. Perhaps the supposed clairvoyance works best by location? The denial of the one true path, played out on a world not their own, will end soon enough. This has to be New Caprica. Rather than having both the organic Cylons and the humans working together on Earth, they try to force a society where they were not supposed to exist. Then, of course, the humans escape. Soon there will be four, glorious in awakening, struggling with the knowledge of their true selves, the pain of revelation bringing new clarity, The four here would be the four Cylons that came forward on Galactica. and in the midst of confusion, he will find her. I can only presume this means Lee finding Starbuck since it was to happen “in the midst of confusion”, which is probably a reference to the Four discovering their true nature, and the finding of Starbuck happened around the same time. Enemies brought together by impossible longing, enemies now joined as one. The way forward at once unthinkable, yet inevitable. This sounds like it’s saying that the Four will be exposed and learn to live with the rest of the people since they had been all along (like Boomer). But I’m not too sure of this one. And the fifth, still in shadow, will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering. Who needs redemption? Who is suffering? Two answers: Baltar and Roslin. Baltar needs redemption from his time on Caprica and what that’s done to his place among the population. He is currently suffering by being a religious outcast of sorts. So, he fits both requirements for the Fifth. Roslin is a small stretch, but they’re making it more possible by the week. She does need redemption, but doesn’t really know or accept it quite yet. She’s ignoring the Council and creating enemies left and right. She’s also trying to get into Adama’s pants on occasion, a behavior that other Organics have found themselves strongly following, even before they knew (eg. Tori and Boomer). Her suffering appears to come twice: one political and one physical. She’s losing favor among the Council (and the people, as a result) as well as seeing her cancer come back. And that is the only problem with this theory: if she can get sick, and if the blood of a Cylon can heal her, can she really be a Cylon? It’s for that reason that I lean towards Baltar here. There’s a fringe vote, however: Starbuck. All the evidence is there to say that something strange happened with her death and return, of course, so that puts her in the running automatically. Her redemption? Her belief that she knows where Earth is. Her suffering? Trying to find it again and having the crew mutiny (which is being hinted at). I can see them all. The seven, now six, Well, that’s obvious now that one of the models has been completely removed (DeAnna) and others almost completely destroyed. self-described machines who believe themselves without sin, but in time, it is sin that will consume them. They will know enmity, bitterness, the wrenching agony of the one splintering into the many, That would be the vote that went wrong and the divisive actions taken after the work on the other Cylon models (the Raiders and the Centurions). and then they will join the promised-land, gathered on the wings of an angel. Not an end, but a beginning. Ahh, and now the fun. Who is the angel? Wings implies a ship, I think, so is the angel the ship or the pilot of the ship? It does sound like the idea is that everyone finds Earth and lives happily ever after, which would be strange, but possible. Hmm. This is certainly the best season yet. |
